LETTERS FROM THE THRESHOLD-ALEX
There are moments when the veil feels thin, when life and death stand so close we can feel each other breathing.
There are moments when the veil feels thin. When life and death stand so close we can feel each other breathing. This is one of those moments. Alex Pretti walked the world as a healer. Hands trained to steady trembling bodies. A heart trained to stay when suffering was too much for others to bear.
He stood beside the dying and the frightened, the broken and the brave — not to fix, but to care, to witness, to love. And in the end, it was witnessing that carried him to the threshold. He stood not with violence in his hands, but with a phone — a small lantern of truth in a darkened hour.
Not to threaten. Only to see. Only to make visible what was happening in the streets of his community. A nurse who had spent his life preserving breath was met with the taking of it. There are no words large enough for that grief.
And yet — here we are, standing where heaven and earth seem to touch, where sorrow opens into something deeper than sorrow. For when a life so rooted in compassion is taken, the heart of the world trembles. And in that trembling, we are invited to remember what truly matters.
Alex did not die as a symbol. He lived as a human being — gentle, present, devoted to healing. But now his life has become a bell, ringing through the collective soul:
Wake up. Care for one another. Protect life. Choose humanity.
At the threshold we see clearly: violence can never be the medicine for fear. Power can never replace love. And witnessing truth — though it may cost dearly — is one of the most sacred acts there is. So we do not say goodbye in despair.
We bow. We give thanks for every life he touched, every breath he steadied, every moment of comfort he offered. We release him into the great silence —the vast love from which we all come from and to which all return.
Fare thee well, Alex. May you rest in the peace you so freely gave. May your courage awaken compassion. May your life continue to heal this world in ways we cannot yet see. And may we, who remain, walk more gently, love more fiercely, and stand more bravely for one another, for life, for LOVE.
MAY ALL LOVE BECOME YOU.
